How My SAT System Works
Tutoring run like an elite coach reviewing game film
I don’t believe in generic worksheets or random sessions. Every missed question is logged, categorized, and analyzed for patterns, so we study not just what a student got wrong, but why. The result is test prep that is targeted, strategic, and genuinely efficient.
Diagnostic Test
We start with a full-length, official-style SAT. This is the game film: an honest baseline of where every point is currently being won and lost.
Error Analysis
Every missed question gets logged into a detailed tracking spreadsheet and sorted by concept, question pattern, and the type of reasoning error behind it.
Personalized Study Plan
Patterns reveal priorities. Instead of reviewing what a student already knows, we build a plan around the mistakes that actually cost points.
Weekly Practice
Focused sessions using official College Board materials and real SAT-style questions, targeted at the exact concepts the data flagged.
Review & Retesting
We re-test under timed conditions, then compare results against the tracker to confirm weak spots are closing and catch new ones early.
Score Improvement
Progress becomes visible and measurable. Students walk into test day calm, prepared, and confident in a strategy that was built for them.
“Instead of wasting time reviewing concepts students already know, I build lessons around actual testing data and recurring question patterns, combining official College Board materials with detailed mistake analysis to improve both accuracy and confidence.”

My Teaching Style
Rigor and warmth aren’t opposites
The best tutoring pairs high standards with a genuinely encouraging room. Students do their sharpest thinking when they feel challenged and supported at the same time, so that’s the room I build, every session.
More about SophiaPatterns over memorization
The SAT is a predictable test. Once a student sees the recurring structures, every question starts to feel familiar instead of foreign.
Lower the temperature
Most lost points come from rushing and second-guessing, not lack of knowledge. We rehearse calm, deliberate pacing until it becomes automatic.
Questions are welcome
There is no such thing as a dumb question in a session. The fastest path to mastery is a student who feels safe being honestly confused.
Built around the student
No two students get the same plan. The tracking data quietly steers every lesson toward what that specific student needs next.
What Families Say
Trusted by parents and students across the Triangle
“Our former neighbor, Sophia Toback, tutored my then high school daughter when she needed help with Math 3 and Spanish during pandemic remote learning. Sophia is very smart, sweet, patient, empathetic, and fun and she really helped my daughter understand those subjects enough to successfully complete the classes with good grades. We highly recommend Sophia as a tutor.”
“My son’s SAT math score jumped 130 points after eight weeks with Sophia. She has a real gift for finding exactly where he was losing points and fixing it systematically.”
“Sophia is the only tutor my daughter has ever actually looked forward to meeting with. She makes hard material feel approachable and keeps the energy positive every session.”
“I came in completely lost in precalc and left every session feeling like I actually got it. Patient, clear, and genuinely invested in my progress.”

Meet Your Tutor
Hi, I’m Sophia.
I’m a recent Georgetown University graduate with a degree in economics, and I’ve spent my academic and professional life living in the world of numbers, through coursework in finance, statistics, and economics, and through analytical work in real estate. That background shapes how I tutor: I see math as a system of patterns, not a pile of facts to memorize.
What I love most, though, is the coaching itself. I’m a runner, and I think about tutoring the way I think about training: consistent, measured effort, honest feedback, and small improvements that compound into something a student can feel proud of. Watching a student go from dreading the math section to walking in calm and prepared never gets old.
I built my data-driven tutoring system because I was frustrated by how much test prep relies on guesswork. By tracking exactly which questions a student misses, and why, every session becomes intentional. It’s rigorous, but it’s also warm. I want students to leave each session a little more confident than they came in.
